The Aphrodisiacs Drink Meme

[She doesn't care if she gets hit by any of it. Doesn't even dodge. He'll have to move past struggling and pry his hand from hers if he wants loose. Still, he's stuck in darkness, and he can't make portals.]

[he hisses at her, angry, and does indeed get more physical about getting his hand away from her, clawing at the back of her hand with Axel's blunt nails and trying to get his fingers between her hand and his own. will it do anything in terms of being able to see anything if he does some small flares of fire around them?]

I'm not trying to take him away from you, I'm trying to protect you and a few other people from the misery and upset that would follow if he even went along with this, which I can assure you he wouldn't.

[She lets go of his hand, but it's not like he'll be able to go anywhere. The fire won't do much. He'll be able to see the fire, and it helps illuminate Riku, tendrils of darkness but it casts no glow on the darkness surrounding them.]

It doesn't matter. Axel doesn't need you to protect him anymore. I hope you know the right choice to make.

[it's okay, it makes him feel better that she's not clutching him anymore. it lets him settle into an aggressive stance, fire curling around his feet and hands, his breathing hard and tense.]

You don't know anything about what he needs. If you really needed him as badly as you think you do, you wouldn't be trapping him in this place.

[She's definitely taking that as a real threat, and closes her eyes. The next thing he knows, the darkness will be gone.

Instead, they're underwater.]

[he makes a terrified noise, bubbles escaping his mouth as half his air leaves him with that reflexive response. Hachibi immediately retreats, despite the fact that he can't be hurt by water in Axel's body the way he is in his own; Axel's left with only minor disorientation from the suddenness of it, but he's still filled with absolute gut-wrenching panic. the water's not hurting him yet, but it'll only be a minute or two before it does, since he's completely submerged. he's trying to find the surface, kicking aimlessly and reaching upwards, but he has no sense of direction right now, of where land might be, of how far down he is, anything.]

[By stark contrast, Riku knows exactly where they are, how far it is to shore, and how to prevent Axel from getting there. She swims like a fish, diving down and making a grab for one of his legs. She's not trying to kill him, even if he might think so, but she's not going to let him get to the surface. Not yet.]

[she's going to have to work for it, considering how violently he's flailing. there are currents of hot water around him, all he can manage to do right now given that he's underwater. and yeah, he's firmly convinced she's lost it completely and is trying to kill him in the most horrible way she could think of. she'd better be keeping close tabs on how much air he seems to have left (not much) and how close he is to being drained of energy from trying to protect himself (moderately).]

[He can stand to lose a little air. It's certainly not a problem for her. She gives up on going for his legs and moves around behind him instead. The hot water is something she's willing to push through if she can get what she's looking for here, which is just to drain him enough to significantly weaken him. Once she's satisfied that he won't be able to put up much of a fight, she'll go in again, attempting to grab his shirt near the collar. If she manages a grip, she'll try to pull him to the surface.]

[he's still struggling, but it's much weaker by now, and bubbles have basically stopped escaping him. grabbing his shirt gets some slightly renewed thrashing, but he seems to sense that she's pulling him up, and/or is on the verge of blacking out, and stops again. unfortunately for her, most of why he seems weakened is a basic lack of air, and also how very far down Hachibi's buried himself for the moment.]

[That's okay. If he needs to be weakened more she'll just dunk him again! No, she's struggling to pull him up, and she's not going to stop. It's fairly easy for her, and since he seems to understand that she moves down further to get a better grip. She'll make sure he gets to the surface, conscious or not. Whether or not she takes him to land yet, well...]

[he starts coughing and making choked noises as soon as he breaks the surface, and the only reason he's not trying to get away from her is that she's the only thing between him and a horrible upsetting death. he's barely moving on his own anymore, just trying to breathe properly again and not sink.]

[That's right, Axel! See? She just wants to save you and take care of you. It's not her fault you're going along with all the wrong things. She takes a deep breath and readjusts her grip on him, keeping afloat like a pro and staring at him. It's quite a ways before they would reach land, but it's in sight! She's taken him to the islands.]

[he's still basically limp the whole way there, not really calm, but in such a state of extreme and abrupt terror that he's turned completely inward to escape it. Hachibi's blocking out a lot of external stimuli anyway, with his shrieking and carrying on. but as long as Riku doesn't let his head go underwater again, he'll be pretty compliant until they get to shore.]

[Despite the circumstances of how they got here, Riku feels such elation at Axel's lack of fight. It's like he's depending on her to get him to safety! She doesn't rush to get to shore, but she does start making her way there. To the play island, not the mainland where the door back to the DR lies.]

[as soon as there's ground anywhere near his feet, he'll be kicking again, trying to get something solid under him. if she doesn't seem to be inclined to get him all the way out of the water, then he'll drag himself out, getting himself away from the surf entirely before collapsing on his front in the sand, still coughing weakly. look what you did, Riku.]

[She takes him all the way to shore, don't worry! She can't risk him getting away from her, after all. She does let go once they're both on land, to better get her own bearings and to let him collapse. Unlike him, she's only slightly out of breath, and kneels beside him in the sand, one hand on his shoulder. It's meant to be comforting, like a parent would comfort a small child who doesn't understand something, but for Axel it's probably anything but.]

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I tried to reason with him.

[now that he's out of the water, he's shaking like a leaf, so much that the flinch when she touches him is nearly lost in it. but even if she didn't catch that, everything else should be pretty unmistakable – he rolls up onto one hip to slap her hand away, and then gets back to pulling himself further away from the water.]

[She's undeterred, standing up to full height and following him slowly, a foot or two to his side.]

Don't you understand now, Axel? The only person you need is me. I'm strong enough to take over any needs you might have. Give me enough time and I'll find a way to get rid of Hachibi so there are no more accidents.

[she's not close enough for him to kick, unfortunately, so he just curls up miserably on his side to rest again. his voice is raspy, and he keeps pausing to cough.]

[If she didn't need to keep him weakened like this, she'd cast a cure. Instead, she moves down to grab hold of his arms so she can drag him.]

[he lashes out with a surprising amount of force at that, but with less precision than if he weren't weakened. his feet are aimed at her kneecaps, one hand flinging a spray of wet sand in the general direction of her face as she leans down. his head's already clearing enough for him to realize that both their phones are probably fucked from being submerged that long, and that if he disables her he's kind of stuck here, but he doesn't care. he just wants her away from him.]

[That was her goal in taking him to the islands! It's a place she's familiar with, she can sustain them both for some time on fish and fruit if necessary, and it's a place he can't escape. There are water on all sides of them! And it's the perfect threat. Her head jerks away to try and protect her eyes from the sand, but enough of it hits to get her stumbling back. The kick to the one knee doesn't help, but she reacts calmly and lands in a defensive kneel. She doesn't seem to care that he's fighting, and doesn't look hurt or upset or even angry.]

[he's actually struggling up to his feet now, still trembling violently and unsteady as hell, but determined to do whatever he can to put some distance between them.]
